Understanding Cannabis Terpenes: A Complete Guide

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants, including cannabis. They're responsible for the distinctive smells and flavors of different cannabis strains, from the citrusy notes of Limonene to the earthy tones of Myrcene.

    What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are organic compounds produced by a variety of plants. In cannabis, they're secreted in the same glands that produce cannabinoids like THC and CBD. While cannabinoids are largely responsible for the psychoactive and therapeutic effects of cannabis, terpenes contribute to the overall experience.

    Common Cannabis Terpenes

Myrcene: The most common terpene in cannabis, myrcene has an earthy, musky scent. It's known for its relaxing effects.

Limonene: With its citrus aroma, limonene is associated with elevated mood and stress relief.

Pinene: As the name suggests, pinene smells like pine trees. It may help with alertness and memory retention.

Linalool: Found also in lavender, linalool has calming properties and a floral scent.

    The Entourage Effect

Terpenes don't work alone. They interact with cannabinoids in what's known as the "entourage effect," potentially enhancing or modulating the effects of THC and CBD.
